Communique: Mail Operations organization!

Canada Post has improved operational efficiencies over the past year, but there is a need to further optimize operations in the face of current economic challenges. For this reason, Canada Post will consult and propose organizational changes to APOC.

Audience: Operations employees represented by APOC and Operations managers

Due to the ongoing financial challenges, Canada Post is doing everything it can to maintain profitability and secure a sustainable future.

Canada Post has improved operational efficiencies over the past year and reduced its headcount within management and front-line workers. There is a need to further optimize operations in the face of current economic challenges. To remain successful we need to continue to reduce our labour cost.

We must streamline our operations by enhancing efficiencies, improving lines of communication, and driving accountability for decision making further down the organization.

For these reasons Canada Post will consult and propose organizational changes to the Association of Postal Officials of Canada (APOC). These changes include reviewing supervisor-to-employee ratios and a proposal to reduce the number of superintendents.

The Association has voiced its concerns with the proposals but has agreed to participate in a joint National Committee to review and discuss these changes.

Canada Post recognizes the important role that team leaders play in the success of the Corporation. Both parties further recognize that any changes made will have an impact on the Association’s members. However, by working together, the parties can ensure that any changes are made with the employees in mind, and ensure that the Corporation remains sustainable over the long term.

We will continue to provide you with information updates as the work of the joint committee progresses.
